Starting small at Dean Essentials Skin Care.

For many years, I’ve had an on-again/off-again battle with mild rosacea. I tried several different products, changed makeup, and even looked into a few home remedies. Nothing really worked, and I certainly wasn’t getting much help at the drugstore makeup counter. Or the department store makeup counter either.

So now what?

Trish, a good friend of mine, recommended I stop by Essentials at Dean Clinic – West in Madison. She gets chemical peels, purchases her skin care products there and speaks very highly of the caring and knowledgeable aestheticians. I expressed my concern about going to Essentials because I don’t have Dean Health Insurance, but Trish told me not to worry because I don’t need any type of insurance to get care at Essentials.

“I’ll start small,” I said to myself. “I’ll see what Essentials recommends for me. At least a qualified opinion would be a nice change.”

When I walked in, I admit my defenses were up. I didn’t want to sign up for a long-term plan, spend a lot of money, or feel pressured in any way. I figured my relatively simple rosacea should have a relatively simple solution.

I was greeted with a warm smile by Kristen, one of the aestheticians. Immediately, I felt welcome and at ease. I asked her what product might help cover my red cheeks without feeling like I had an inch of thick makeup caked on my face.

Right away, I knew I was in good hands, working with someone who knew how to help. We talked about my concerns and hopes for results, and I could sense her genuine desire to find a good solution.

Kristen suggested an oil-free glōminerals makeup base and found just the right shade. “We’ve had a lot of success with this, and it doesn’t look cakey,” she said. “Tell ya what. Take this small sample home and give it a try. That way, especially when you start with a fresh clean face, you can be sure you like the color and the coverage.”

The shade turned out to be absolutely perfect. The coverage was even more amazing — it covered the redness on my face and gave me an even skin tone. I went back to Essentials the next day, found Kristen again, and told her how well it worked. “I tried it as a base,” I said, “and put my regular powder makeup over it. But you know, the coverage is so good and it blends so well, I think I can get away with wearing it alone!” She took a close objective look at the coverage and quickly agreed. “See what I mean?” she said. “It’s perfect.”

I still can’t get over how well a thin layer of the right makeup can completely mask the rosacea on my chin and cheeks. It completely evens-out my skin tone and makes my face look healthier. Best of all, I have such an improvement in self-confidence! Before, I admit, I was a little self-conscious about the redness on my face. Not anymore!

For me, my foray into skin care at Essentials was something I should have done a long time ago. Talking to Kristen and some of the other staff members there gave me a better sense of what I could do to further improve the look and feel of my skin.

Feeling confident with such great service and expertise, I decided to return for a full consultation to see what other products and services might be right for me. I also found out that with regular sales and specials, I could get some great deals on excellent products. I soon invested in a skin care program with medical-grade ingredients to target rosacea. I couldn’t be happier with the results. After all, I may not be able to turn back the hands of time, but I can certainly slam on the brakes!

A small start at Essentials has given me such amazing results. With my skin looking better and better, it didn’t take long for my family and friends to notice. In fact, my sister was so impressed, we’re going to Essentials together for a few hers-and-hers treatments.

And believe me, that’s an endorsement if there ever was one.
