Let’s take a look at some 80′s music icons, what they had to say about sunglasses, and if those thoughts are accurate. We’ll start with the obvious:
I wear my sunglasses at night.
— Corey Hart
That’s just a bad idea. Sure, that might work for watching someone weave and breathe story lines (whatever that means), but it might not be so great for pedestrians and oncoming traffic. Try wearing them on sunny days when you really need them. And definitely on overcast days when UV rays are just as harmful to your eyes.
The choice is up to you, ‘cause they come in two classes:
Rhinestone shades and cheap sunglasses.
— ZZ Top
The ZZ Top guys might know about classic hot rods and how to properly groom long beards, but apparently they don’t know much about shopping for sunglasses. A good optical store offers lots of style choices (some undoubtedly include rhinestones) with a wide range of materials, applications and pricing.
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.
— Timbuk 3
This makes sense, particularly if the metaphorical sun of the future is producing metaphorical UV rays and high-intensity light. (And why wouldn’t it?)
Cool is a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.
— Huey Lewis
Bingo. Your sunglasses must be cool. But if they’re bad — meaning they don’t offer strong UV protection and good physical coverage for your eyes — then they’re just, well, bad.
